At long last, an excellent book based on the life and teachings of Jesus as told in The Urantia Book is here. It is called The Untold Story of Jesus: A Modern Biography from The Urantia Book. This book is the result of twelve years of dreams, hopes, prayers, hard work, teamwork, artistry, and love. The following words guided the mission of this work: "What a transcendent service if, through this revelation, the Son of Man should be recovered from the tomb of traditional theology and be presented as the living Jesus to the church that bears his name, and to all other religions!" 196:1.2 (2090.3)
Chronologically, from birth to his ascension, you'll read over 125 beloved stories extracted from the midwayers' narrative of Jesus' adventures, plus selected sermons and teachings. Beautifully illustrated, it contains 106 paintings from 35 of the world's best religious artists! Forty-two paintings are original because they were commissioned to portray the Master's life only described in The Urantia Book. "The high mission of any art is, by its illusions, to foreshadow a higher universe reality, to crystallize the emotions of time into the thought of eternity." 48:7.23 (557.7)
The Untold Story of Jesus is suitable as a coffee table book, as a gift, or as a daily devotional that inspires and uplifts your soul. You'll want to look at, study, and give the book away. Reading these stories, accompanied by paintings, creates validity and gravitas to the flawless words of the revelation. For your friends who may find The Urantia Book daunting, The Untold Story of Jesus makes a trustworthy introduction to the noblest life ever lived in this local universe, let alone on earth. "Of all human knowledge, that which is of greatest value is to know the religious life of Jesus and how he lived it." 196:1.3 (2090.4)
In 2006, the idea for paintings to illustrate Part IV of The Urantia Book
was born. By 2009, the second of those paintings was completed: One Day Alone with God
by the famous Mormon artist, Del Parson. Then the commissions began in earnest. Artists started creating their visions of Jesus based on Urantia Book descriptions of the Master. You'll see Jesus hiking with his father, playing with the shepherd dog, studying with Ganid in the Alexandrian library, commissioning the women's corps, agonizing in the garden of Gethsemane, and so much more. (You can see all the paintings in the Mo and Jennifer Siegel Collection
In 2009 we also began discussing the possibility of creating a book. At first, we wanted to only showcase the new paintings and the stories they told. But we soon decided that telling the great stories of Jesus' whole life was in order. Next, an editorial team of seasoned readers, with a combined Urantia Book experience of over 300 years, extracted the stories from Part IV. Their work created a seamless narrative of the Master's life. And this painstaking process of creating the book continued all the way into the early days of 2019. At that point, we employed the talents of an outside team of successful book designers to layout the manuscript.
Along the way, detailed pages that add appeal and information were created. Some are:
- A glossary of Urantia Book terms
- A table of Bible cross-references
- Three maps showing Jesus' travels, key events, and resurrection appearances
- A timeline of Jesus' life
- Easy-to-read sidebars and illustrated boxes for quick comprehension and storytelling.
Finally we decided on the title for the book. Hundreds of possible titles were considered over the years. But The Untold Story of Jesus best describes what the book contains.
We could not have made this book without the services of a top-notch team of artists, editors, designers, and production experts. We are so grateful to every person who has been a part of this undertaking. Twenty-nine people contributed their time, energy, ideas, resources, and great love. This book is a labor of that love. We hope you enjoy it!
The Untold Story of Jesus honors the human Son of Man as well as the divine Son of God. We envision it appealing to followers of Jesus everywhere. The world is hungry for a new and authentic vision of Jesus and his life-saving teachings. This book will be accessible to thousands who may not ever read The Urantia Book. Everyone needs to know Jesus. In The Untold Story of Jesus, they will find him.
