Q: All my life, I have been working for my family, and suddenly I got a chance to apply for a better job, but I failed. I am disappointed in myself. How can I encourage myself to move on, so that I can fulfill my dreams in life?
A: Thanks so much for this note…it sounds like you had your heart set on getting that job!
You have written your question to TruthBook.com…we are a website dedicated to the teachings of The Urantia Book, a modern-day revelation of God to mankind. You don’t mention whether you are a reader, but I hope you are, or that you will become one…
I am sure that on the face of it, it looks as though you have failed, and now, you are feeling discouraged. But that may not be the case at all. All it takes is a different way of looking at this situation…you re-frame it, as if you were re-framing a picture.
Have you ever thought that maybe this job was not the right situation for you? That maybe something better is just on the horizon? The way you think about this will influence the way you feel, and, more importantly, the way you feel about yourself. If you trust in God with a whole heart, you can take seeming disappointments like this one and turn them to your advantage. When you know with a certainty that God is your unfailing guide through life, this kind of minor stumbling block should not give you more than a momentary unease. God wants you to fulfill your dreams. He wants to see you successful and happy.
Tell God that you understand that he has something better in store for you, and thank him in advance. You know, when we sincerely pray to God with our concerns and cares, he always answers us. Sometimes the answer is “yes,” and we are happy; sometimes the answer is “No, not now…” and sometimes, the answer is “No, not this but something better…” Ask God to show you his will for you; be willing to do your best to DO that will in your daily life. When we pray, we don’t change God’s mind—we help ourselves to change OUR own minds to think better thoughts. So pray. When we have faith that we are not alone in our lives, it can make such a big difference…
Try to keep an expectant faith, and know that there will be other chances for you. Pray to God daily, and let him know that you are on the alert, and ready to be guided to the next opportunity. And then, relax, and go about your business, knowing in your heart that you have the Universal Father of all and his angelic ambassadors working on your behalf, arranging and preparing the ground for you. When the next opportunity comes, you will be happy and ready to try again.
The Urantia Book teaches:
132:7.9 …That which the enlightened and reflective human imagination of spiritual teaching and leading wholeheartedly and unselfishly wants to do and be, becomes measurably creative in accordance with the degree of mortal dedication to the divine doing of the Father’s will. When man goes in partnership with God, great things may, and do, happen.
Let go of your thoughts of failure and allow the thoughts of safety and assurance to bring peace to your heart . The best is yet to be! I invite you to follow the links I have given in this reply so that you can receive far more inspiration than I can give myself through the matchless teachings of The Urantia Book.
Best Wishes!
