Views of Primitive Spirit Traditions for Halloween
/in Trending Now!The Urantia Book does not mention Halloween, as the holiday is a cultural and religious tradition specific to Earth rather than a cosmic topic discussed in its papers. While Halloween itself isn’t referenced, The Urantia Book discusses the historical evolution of ghost cults, magic, and spirit fears in early human civilization: “ Paper 87,Ghost Cults, explains that “primitive humans developed rituals out of anxiety, fear of bad luck, and misconceptions regarding the spirits of the dead” and Paper 88, Fetishes, Charms, and Magic, explores how early societies attributed spiritual or supernatural powers to physical objects and ghost stories. Over time, modern holidays like Halloween evolved from these ancient ancestral fears and seasonal transition festivals into secular and Christian community traditions.
The themes of magic, spooky wandering spirits, sorcery, and superstition that we associate with Halloween were popular in Jesus’ day, too, due to the pagan mystery cults like Mithraism. He gave a memorable talk on the subject Here

This article corroborates Urantia Book’s teachings about evolution. In describing various developments in the course of evolution, the word “suddenly” is used dozens of times, as in this passage, “From era to era radically new species of animal life arise. They do not evolve as the result of the gradual accumulation of small variations; they appear as full-fledged and new orders of life, and they appear suddenly.” Read Paper 58:6.3 (669.4)
Sudden developments are not isolated to biologic evolution, but extend to spiritual and mental evolution, too. Remember that the order of progressive evolution is subjected to sudden and unexpected periodical changes in both the material and the spiritual worlds. The bestowal of Jesus as an incarnated Son was just such a strange and unexpected event in the spiritual life of the world. ~ Read Paper (170:4.14)
