Q: Please in your opinion, does this book fulfill any of the prophesies in the book of Revelations?

A: From The Urantia Book:

(139:4.14) When in temporary exile on Patmos, John wrote the Book of Revelation, which you now have in greatly abridged and distorted form. This Book of Revelation contains the surviving fragments of a great revelation, large portions of which were lost, other portions of which were removed, subsequent to John’s writing. It is preserved in only fragmentary and adulterated form.

The Urantia Book is not intended to be a fulfillment of Bible prophecy—especially not a revelation that has been so poorly preserved and of such a fragmentary nature. It is, instead, a new revelation of truth to our world which is intended to assist mankind into a new and higher spiritual evolution.

The Urantia Book fills in the gaps in Bible history, cosmology, planetary history, and the life and teachings of Jesus. It is not meant to supplant the Bible, but to enlarge its concepts and truths.

The Bible is a grand document; Jesus himself often quoted the ancient Scriptures in his ministry; he was well-schooled in it from a young age. But he also cautioned believers not to place too high a value on the Scriptures as “sacred.” He culled the best and highest of Scripture teachings, but rejected those which contradicted his gospel of a loving and forgiving God.

From The Urantia Book:

(196:2.1) The new testament is a superb Christian document, but it is only meagerly Jesusonian.

Jesus taught:

(155:6.12) “You must cease to seek for the word of God only on the pages of the olden records of theologic authority. Those who are born of the spirit of God shall henceforth discern the word of God regardless of whence it appears to take origin. Divine truth must not be discounted because the channel of its bestowal is apparently human. Many of your brethren have minds which accept the theory of God while they spiritually fail to realize the presence of God. And that is just the reason why I have so often taught you that the kingdom of heaven can best be realized by acquiring the spiritual attitude of a sincere child. It is not the mental immaturity of the child that I commend to you but rather the spiritual simplicity of such an easy-believing and fully-trusting little one. It is not so important that you should know about the fact of God as that you should increasingly grow in the ability to feel the presence of God.”

(159:4.9) “But the greatest error of the teaching about the scriptures is the doctrine of their being sealed books of mystery and wisdom which only the wise minds of the nation dare to interpret. The revelations of divine truth are not sealed except by human ignorance, bigotry, and narrow-minded intolerance. The light of the scriptures is only dimmed by prejudice and darkened by superstition. A false fear of sacredness has prevented religion from being safeguarded by common sense. The fear of the authority of the sacred writings of the past effectively prevents the honest souls of today from accepting the new light of the gospel, the light which these very God-knowing men of another generation so intensely longed to see.”

This was true regarding the Old Testament in Jesus’ times, and is still true today. Jesus came to set men free from over-reliance on ancient writings and fearful prophecies. Jesus’ “new light of the gospel” established the kingdom of heaven in the hearts of mankind, and encouraged people to live lives of originality and spiritual freedom, with the intimate presence of God-within as our only inerrant guide. He taught that God is our Father and that we are his children, making all mortal beings brothers and sisters.

Our destiny is not fulfilled according to ancient prophecy, but in the day-to-day living of a life dedicated to finding and doing the will of God, and serving the brotherhood of mankind. This revelation, restated in the pages of The Urantia Book, is our surest guide to fulfilling our true purpose here on earth.
