Q: How can I find God in a world with so many distractions?
A: It can be very difficult to find God in our noisy world—we do have so many distractions; and God speaks so softly in our inmost being, we have to get quiet and be receptive to really hear that “still, small voice.” But it can be done. Once we know that God dwells as a divine Presence in our minds, we can be sure that he is as close as a thought, and then use our minds to get closer to him.
From The Urantia Book:
It had always been Jesus’ practice, when facing any new or serious decisions, to withdraw for communion with his own spirit that he might seek to know the will of God. (136:4.10)
The doing of the will of God is nothing more or less than an exhibition of creature willingness to share the inner life with God–with the very God who has made such a creature life of inner meaning-value possible. (111:5.1)
Though you cannot find God by searching, if you will submit to the leading of the indwelling spirit, you will be unerringly guided… (2:5.5)
Human life continues–survives–because it has a universe function, the task of finding God. (132:3.7)
“The world is filled with hungry souls who famish in the very presence of the bread of life; men die searching for the very God who lives within them.” (159:3.8)
Thanks so much for this question. It is one that can perplex many of us, but finding God is worth every effort!
