I don’t mean to be glib, but really, there is no other way to grasp the significance of this epochal revelation of God to mankind than to actually read it. It will take you anywhere from 6 months to a year, if you are an average reader—faster if you’re above average. I know that looking at its size, and maybe some of its strange-sounding words might be off-putting at first. But if you are a sincere truthseeker—if you thirst for truth, for God, for understanding of your world, your universe, and your real purpose and destiny—all of your questions will be fully satisfied.

If, on the other hand, you are satisfied with your present spirituality, you may not have the stamina or the desire to actually read through it to discover its treasure. And that’s okay, too. Even though The Urantia Book is a revelation for every person on the planet, not all are drawn to it, and not everyone has to read it, although I wish everyone would. If you just want to know ABOUT it, you can visit any number of Urantia Book sites, including ours (TruthBook.com) and try to glean some understanding second-hand…but there is no substitute for experiencing the revelation for yourself.

I might suggest that you begin at Part I…or, if you are someone who wants to know more about Jesus, start at Part IV. You might even want to skip around at first and just read papers that pique your interest. But eventually, you’ll get the best understanding if you just plow through from the beginning. If you find yourself getting bogged down, don’t worry, and don’t stop—just read on. You’ll still get a bigger picture of what The Urantia Book has to offer even if you can’t immediately understand all the words and concepts at first reading. It is a huge revelation, covering a lot of ground, and the more difficult parts will fall into place with time. One thing that happens is that as we open our minds to receive the information, we stretch our capacity to receive even more; so that, when you revisit some of these challenging ideas later, they will make much better sense.

I had The Urantia Book for several years before I actually read it, cover to cover. And once I did, I was simply blown away…and that feeling has never left me. I have never tired of it, even after 25 years. It claims to be a revelation of God that is equivalent to the revelation of Jesus over 2000 years ago…and that is easy to say, but when you actually allow your mind to absorb what it is saying, I think you’ll feel as so many truthseekers do—those who have come before you—those who love what it is, believe that it is what it claims, and who are grateful for what it has done for them.
