Q: What are the historical and Biblical evidences for the resurrection of Jesus Christ?
A: Thank you for your note to Truthbook.com. And what an appropriate question as we enter this Easter season of 2022…
For centuries, the Bible has held the most striking and complete references and evidences for the resurrection of Jesus. If you do a Google search for these references, you’ll find an abundance of them. After all, the Bible is primarily an historical document written by people who were alive at that time, people who were eyewitnesses to the fact that Jesus did rise from his tomb, people who witnessed his resurrection appearances. For centuries, these accounts have inspired the followers of Jesus, and have served as solid and accepted evidence for his life, his death, and his resurrection.
But you have written your question to our site which is dedicated to the teachings and the revelation of The Urantia Book, and so, I hope that you’ll do yourself a favor and read its accounts of this momentous event as well. The Urantia Book offers us a more complete and replete accounting of the resurrection than has ever been seen on earth.
Part IV of The Urantia Book is a virtual day-to-day accounting of the life of Jesus, and it culminates in the thrilling story of the Master’s resurrection on that long-ago Easter Sunday in April, A.D 30. These accountings can be trusted and can be relied upon for accuracy, as they were written by spiritual beings who were actually there, beings called Midwayers, who are the faithful recorders of planetary history. They tell us that :
“The true evidences of the resurrection of Michael are spiritual in nature, albeit this teaching is corroborated by the testimony of many mortals of the realm who met, recognized, and communed with the resurrected morontia Master. He became a part of the personal experience of almost one thousand human beings before he finally took leave of Urantia.” (189:2.9)
No event in the history of mankind has had such an impact on our world. Now—over 2000 years later—we still celebrate and rejoice that Jesus showed us the final destiny of the children of man. He was a son of man, as well as a Son of God, and his resurrection on the third day demonstrates the process by which each of us will resurrect also. The body of Jesus was dissolved, and his Spirit emerged triumphant from the grave, to be eventually lifted to Heaven.
The same will happen to us, although with some differences, as we will not be resurrected here on the earth as Jesus was. His mission was to proclaim the loving character of God to mankind, and he used this time following his resurrection to further reiterate these teachings to his believers. But in essence, he showed us that, like himself, every son of God has this same opportunity for eternal life.
He was greatly changed, as is evidenced by both the Biblical accounts of his appearance to Mary Magdalene, and The Urantia Book account. This is further evidence that his resurrection was as a spirit being, and not in his body of the flesh.
I hope that this reply has been useful to you as you celebrate Easter…you might enjoy seeing our beautiful flash movie regarding the Master’s resurrection HERE. It is a short, but potent recounting of Jesus’ final teachings through some of his nineteen resurrection appearances.
