Dear Bro Coop !

You simply brought up the media hype on the subject by just a diagram of the Hadron Collider.

I thought it befitting to write a blog on it.

Pl have a look and give your valued opinion for any additions/revisions.

The Higgs boson is not thought to be the most fundamental particle of matter. That would be TUB’s ultimaton. The Higgs boson has a predicted mass of ~125 proton masses. So it cannot be the ultimaton. In fact, Higgs bosons are so massive they cannot be the constituent particles of any other fundamental particle such as quarks, protons, neutrons, electrons, etc.

Higgs bosons are very short lived and very massive particles that are thought to (somehow) create (or mediate) a so called Higgs field. Other particles interact with this (global) field, which is thought to give them their mass.. It seems the ultimaton is still missing in particle physics.. :)
