I stumbled across this in Dr. Sadler's "Terminology":

Anger

Anger is a material manifestation which represents, in a general way, the measure of the failure of the spiritual nature to gain control of the combined intellectual and physical natures. Anger indicates your lack of tolerant brotherly love plus your lack of self—respect and self—control. Anger depletes the health, debases the mind, and handicaps the spirit teacher of man’s soul. Have you not read in the Scriptures that “wrath kills the foolish man,” and that man “tears himself in his anger”? That “he who is slow of wrath is of great understanding,” while “he who is hasty of temper exalts folly”? You all know that”a soft answer turns away wrath,” and how “grievous words stir up anger.” Discretion defers anger, while “he who has no control over his own self is like a defenseless city without walls.” “Wrath is cruel and anger is outrageous.” “Angry men stir up strife, while the furious multiply their transgressions.” “Be not hasty in spirit, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.” (1673.2) 149:4.2

What do you do when someone confuses righteous indignation with anger? When a person uses righteous indignation to justify his or her anger? Should righteous indignation result in wrathful outrage directed at a personality or at the unrighteous idea itself? What is the difference between anger and indignation?

“A failure of the spiritual nature to control” is the clue.
Anger always comes first and then we learn to control it or let it control us as described above.

If anger comes first, it has meaning as an evolutionary tool.

Is it revelation that urges self control?

I don't know if revelation itself is an urge, but the Thought Adjuster certainly does encourage the mind to control itself. Revelation due to Thought Adjuster stimulation and inspiration I refer to as personal revelation, or self-revelation, or auto-revelation.

(1437:3) 130:6.3 Your mind should be your courageous ally in the solution of your life problems rather than your being, as you have been, its abject fear-slave and the bond servant of depression and defeat. But most valuable of all, your potential of real achievement is the spirit which lives within you, and which will stimulate and inspire your mind to control itself and activate the body if you will release it from the fetters of fear and thus enable your spiritual nature to begin your deliverance from the evils of inaction by the power-presence of living faith. And then, forthwith, will this faith vanquish fear of men by the compelling presence of that new and all-dominating love of your fellows which will so soon fill your soul to overflowing because of the consciousness which has been born in your heart that you are a child of God.
