MitchS: I believe "generation" of course refers to the length of time necessary for the spawn to become fully adult and bring forth another of its own kind. In the animal species, we see that the more advanced mammalian families spend longer periods in the childhood phase of life.
When we come upon civilization as a specie, not only does the mammalian trend to have longer pre-adult phases of life. The primates would have generations spanned roughly 15 years long, whereas in the modern society we might say that this term has lengthened to about 20 or 25 years of age. Since it is not solely the ability of the body to rear forth offspring, but rather to raise a family in the modern sense.
