Urantia Book colour edition for Android tablets, phones etc

Tue Mar 19, 2013 1:21 pm +0000

Yesterday, as I tried using my edition of the Urantia Papers on Android tablets (Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10 and my daughter's Pipo U1Pro) I realized that with a few simple changes it can be optimized for tablets properly. Namely, I implemented the following:

    * Page aspect ratio set to 16:9 to fill the screen optimally
    * Page background set to light yellow (plain white is too bright)
    * Lettrine letters in blue
    * Words of Jesus in red
    * Some other small decorative elements in green (like prayer separators, paper terminators, etc)

You can download the result for free directly from your tablet or phone (or computer and then copy to the tablet) from here:

(the one next to "NEW!" thing)

Enjoy and let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for features that you want implemented.

Congratulations on some outstanding work! The designs are a success, I wonder if you have thought about maybe creating solid copies of it as well? There are several methods to adjust the designs for printing, and that could provide you with some positive response from the more traditional segments of the intended audience, who still prefer to feel paper instead of the tablet screen. :smile:

Thank you. Yes, the printed (b&w) versions of my editions have been available for more than 2 years now :)

Ah, wait a minute... You meant COLOUR versions in printed form? Hmmm, I haven't thought of this because it would be too expensive. I.e. I can easily make it available, but the production cost would be very high. So, even though I never add any royalty on my editions of Urantia Papers, the final price (which is equal to production cost) would be prohibitively high. Are you sure it is worth it?

Oh btw, while we are on this topic (before I forget), I was going to mention that this (colour) edition is at present the only way to search the Urantia Book offline on an Android tablet. And if you use ezPDF Reader then the searching is very powerful (you can control options like exact match, case-sensitivity, etc) and it is incredibly fast (about 300 pages per second on my Zopo ZP950+ phablet, compared to Adobe's official Reader on Android doing about 80 pages per second), so I highly recommend it.

Precisely - it was the colour versions that I thought you should consider. I think the production cost will greatly vary depending on the quantity that you are aiming to produce, while also there's always sponsorship opportunities available for valuable projects, so I would encourage you to give it a go. Also, thanks for advice, I am indeed an ezPDF user :)

I have made quite a few changes recently, especially noticeable in the colour version (e.g. addition of colour illustrations), so I suggest you refresh your copy by downloading the latest version from the same URL:

The list of changes made is available at the above URL (just click on the "ChangeLog" link)
