I left the church I was raised in out of disgust at its assertion that it, and it alone, is the true church of God. I’m sorry, guys, but I am reminded of that disgust when I see people debating whether T he URANTIA Book is infallible when the book itself quotes Jesus as having said to one of his apo...

We do indeed have only our perceptions to go on, but what are their limits? How deeply, and how clearly, do we perceive? I didn’t know it at the time, but the experience opened the door to a new world of possibilities. For many years I thought the challenge was getting to know and understand the wor...

Thanks, all. It is reassuring to know that there are some people who take such experiences seriously. Sorry, Gerdean. I didn’t mean it the way it sounded. The symbolism you used is really worth some consideration. After all, it was a time after I left the church I was brought up in and before my pur...

Your response, Gerdean, is typical if the reason I don't talk much about it. It was far too real to be taken so lightly. It's not something that can be so easily dismissed. Yes, it may have been a dream or hallucination due to exhaustion (not stress) and the symbolism makes sense, but it is so real ...

I’m not sure you call this a “spiritual experience.” I call it “weird” and something I imagine most people will either not believe or make out as nothing more than a dream. I don’t talk about it for that reason. It was too real to me to allow to be taken lightly. I was still exhausted from my long f...

No offense, but what kind of question is, "Is The URANTIA Book infallible?" The UB itself says it isn't infallible.
Quote:
P.1768 - §4 "Mark you well my words, Nathaniel, nothing which human nature has touched can be regarded as infallible.

In answer to your question: I dunno--yet. I don't think we're nearly as free to choose as we like to think. "...Most of us, most of the time, behave and act mechanically, like machines. The specifically human power of self-awareness is [for the most part] asleep, and the human being, like an animal,...

I hope you are not mistaking theology for religion. It is true that God cannot be circumscribed, but it can't be avoided. We “would be unable to form the first rational thought pattern, were it not for the innate ability of all mind, high or low, to form a universe frame in which to think.” (P.1260 ...

Your analysis is interesting and thought-provoking. First, I think that your suggestion that our “self” does not exist in isolation is accurate. We—at least the LIFE aspect of us—are more like regions of dominant characteristics within the undivided life of God than individuals in the usual absolute...

I look at it this way: An open mind has to close around something or forever remain empty. Just check out the "open minded" professors at some of our universities!

On P.1090 the UB says, “It is what one believes rather than what one knows that determines conduct and dominates personal performances.” On page P.1114 we are told, “Belief has attained the level of faith when it motivates life and shapes the mode of living.” The GK Chesterton quote, “When people st...

An interest in cosmology represents our effort to discern if not God, then the source and cause of the material order and may even lead to the pursuit of divine reality-values. In 1935, people were just beginning to wrap their minds around the fact that the known universe is much larger than the gal...

Even if The URANTIA Book is wrong with respect to Mercury, so what? "Any cosmology presented as a part of revealed religion is destined to be outgrown in a very short time. Accordingly, future students of such a revelation are tempted to discard any element of genuine religious truth it may contain ...

While what you suggest is one possible explanation, there is another. It may be that something--the Thought Adjuster, perhaps--triggers a coalescence of ideas derived from personal experience and things I’ve read but do not remember. For example, Paper 118 together with the intellectualization of pe...
