So you seem to be saying that it would be frightening to have physical evidence of super-mortal beings. Fear is probably the most common method of violating free will. This sounds close to an explanation of why we are never given such evidence. I also suspect that it would be "overpowering"...

I'm still having difficulty understanding the connection between working quietly and invisibly and respecting free will.
I don't mean to cast aspersions, but that's exactly the way spies and pick-pockets violate people's free will.
