A woman from Nazareth gave birth to a baby here at approximately noon. Mary and her husband Joseph are visitors from Nazareth. The couple is here to comply with the enrollment decree of Caesar Augustus. They were housed in a stable due to the crowded conditions here. A record influx of visitors are the result of the requirement for citizens to register in the city of their birth. Because no crib was available, the new baby was laid in a manger.
