Was Jesus created or is he self existing?

Thanks so much for writing to us here at TruthBook with this great question...

Strictly speaking, all personalities and things aside from God are created. God is the only Uncaused Cause. Even the second and third Persons of Trinity only came into being through the will of this Cause, even though they are equal in power and infinity. Without God, nothing and no one would have existence, and Jesus is no exception. Jesus, the son of man, was first a human mortal just like you and me, created in the same way that you and I were created - out of the union of our parents. And the divine Son of God incarnate as Jesus of Nazareth was - and is - a created being, although a very special and unique creation

There is considerable confusion on our world about Jesus' divine origins, confusion that is completely cleared up when we read the teachings of The Urantia Book. It is widely believed that Jesus is the second Person of the Trinity personified - God the Eternal, Only-Begotten Son; in actuality, we are taught, Jesus is a Creator Son, the SON of this very same Eternal Son.

I might suggest that you read the Urantia Book paper about Creator Sons, so that you can gain a fuller understanding of them, and the role that one very special Son - our Creator Son - played in the history of our world as Jesus of Nazareth. The passages that I will cite below can be found there as well. Please click here

The Urantia Book says this about Creator Sons:

"THE CREATOR SONS are the makers and rulers of the local universes of time and space. These universe creators and sovereigns are of dual origin, embodying the characteristics of God the Father and God the Son. But each Creator Son is different from every other; each is unique in nature as well as in personality; each is the "only-begotten Son" of the perfect deity ideal of his origin.
"These primary Paradise Sons are personalized as Michaels. As they go forth from Paradise to found their universes, they are known as Creator Michaels. When settled in supreme authority, they are called Master Michaels. Sometimes we refer to the sovereign of your universe of Nebadon as Christ Michael. Always and forever do they reign after the "order of Michael," that being the designation of the first Son of their order and nature."

Here is a passage regarding a Creator Son's origins:

"When the fullness of absolute spiritual ideation in the Eternal Son encounters the fullness of absolute personality concept in the Universal Father, when such a creative union is finally and fully attained, when such absolute identity of spirit and such infinite oneness of personality concept occur, then, right then and there, without the loss of anything of personality or prerogative by either of the infinite Deities, there flashes into full-fledged being a new and original Creator Son, the only-begotten Son of the perfect ideal and the powerful idea whose union produces this new creator personality of power and perfection."

And so, you can see that Jesus of Nazareth is "created" in both the human and the divine sense, and not self-existent, as is the Universal Father. So we have a divine and infinite Creator Son incarnated into the frail, finite body of a human being. It is an unfathomable mystery as to how this amazing incarnation was effected; even the authors of the papers are not aware of how this came about. But, aren't we glad that it did?

Thanks again for this important question. I hope that my reply has been helpful. Please feel free to write back any time!
