Are prayers really heard?

Q: My best seems to be nothing...I did everything just to succeed but I still fail! Are prayers really heard?

A: Thank you for your note to Truthbook.com, a website dedicated to the teachings of The Urantia Book.

Yes - prayers are really heard. Oftentimes, though, what we think we need is not what God has in store for us. God does not always answer prayer by giving us the desire of our hearts, but instead, he sometimes leads us out into unexplored territory, where, if we follow his lead, we may find something even better than what we thought we wanted. His will for you is joy, and peace that passes understanding. If you are not experiencing that deep in your heart and soul, perhaps you are praying for the wrong things. Success cannot always be measured by material yardsticks.

Please have a look at this section of The Urantia Book: The Answer to Prayer. It is a talk that Jesus gave to his apostles following the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead. I think if you take it to heart, you may find some encouragement and inspiration.

You don't mention whether or not you are a reader of The Urantia Book, but I hope you are. And if you are not, you would do well to read it. It is a revelation from God that is for you. In its pages, you will find new purpose for your life, and a way to navigate the uncertainties of life with the assurance that you are beloved child of God.

You have a distinct purpose that no one but you can fulfill. The Urantia Book teaches us that we should always pray for values, not things. Once you get your values straight (think "truth, beauty, and goodness", for example), you may find that your life begins to fall in line for you much better. The material is always sure to follow the spiritual...but the spiritual values have to come first.
