"Of God, the most inescapable of all presences, the most real of all facts, the most living of all truths, the most loving of all friends, and the most divine of all values, we have the right to be the most certain of all universe experiences." ~ The Urantia Book, (102:7.10)

God Within Man - The Thought Adjuster

God's love for his mortal children is so encompassing, so far-reaching, that he makes himself completely available to every individual mortal through the ministry of mind; this simply means that a fragment - a "spark" - of God literally indwells your mind, thus allowing God to experience in the most intimate way, your day-to-day life with you, good and bad. In turn, we mortals are allowed to experience in our inmost beings the reality of God - his goodness, his love and his joy. As we strive more and more to find him within our hearts, he becomes just that much more real in our experience. We live in God, and God does, literally, live in us. The Urantia Book designates this fragment of God the Thought Adjuster. Its job is to help attune our thoughts and our minds towards the recognition of the always desirable will of God. "It is your thoughts, not your feelings, that lead you Godward."

Said Jesus: "No more shall suffering mortals be denied the comfort of knowing the love of God and understanding the mercy of the Father in heaven. While the speech of God spoken from the whirlwind was a majestic concept for the day of its utterance, you have already learned that the Father does not thus reveal himself, but rather that he speaks within the human heart as a still, small voice, saying, `This is the way; walk therein.' Do you not comprehend that God dwells within you, that he has become what you are that he may make you what he is!" ~ The Urantia Book, (148:6.10)

This is such a beautiful statement, and so plainly said - Jesus did not equivocate. What a comfort - what a joy - what a solid foundation upon which to build a strong faith and a life of truth, beauty and goodness...to know for certain that we go in partnership with the very Creator of all that is! And when we come to know - and experience - this saving fact of the Father's indwelling presence, it can transform a mediocre life into one of renewed purpose, grace and goodness.

God's Will

Far from the Old Testament God of old, before whom mankind, even to this day cowers in fear, the revelation of the Universal Father in The Urantia Book shows us the eternal truth of a God so large and embracing and good that there is no room in his nature for negative thought or intention; no thoughts of vengeance or retribution. Far from a niggling dread that his Divine will may be something we need fear, The Urantia Book's teachings about God help us to welcome and seek his will in our lives - to embrace it and dedicate our own free will to its realization. His spiritual reality, his loving-kindness, his matchless personality, and above all, his attitude of Fatherly affection for all of his children are just a few of God's adorable qualities.

Said Jesus: "You have been taught that you should `fear God and keep his commandments, for that is the whole duty of man.' But I have come to give you a new and higher commandment. I would teach you to `love God and learn to do his will, for that is the highest privilege of the liberated sons of God.' Your fathers were taught to `fear God—the Almighty King.' I teach you, `Love God—the all-merciful Father.' ~ The Urantia Book, (149:6.7)

We are blessed to belong to a time in history when the truth of God is finally re-told...

Close-up of the inside of a pink flower by Don PaulsonGod Is Love

"When once you grasp the idea of God as a true and loving Father, the only concept which Jesus ever taught, you must forthwith, in all consistency, utterly abandon all those primitive notions about God as an offended monarch, a stern and all-powerful ruler whose chief delight is to detect his subjects in wrongdoing and to see that they are adequately punished, unless some being almost equal to himself should volunteer to suffer for them, to die as a substitute and in their stead. The whole idea of ransom and atonement is incompatible with the concept of God as it was taught and exemplified by Jesus of Nazareth. The infinite love of God is not secondary to anything in the divine nature." ~ The Urantia Book, (188:4.8)

God as Father and Friend

One of the most beautiful truths of the expanded revelation of God contained within The Urantia Book is the teaching about God as Father. We learn that God is Father of our spirit selves just as our earthly father is parent to our material bodies. And since our spirit selves are destined for eternity, that Father-child relationship will persist throughout our eternal career. God is a real person, and is personally real - a true friend and a true Father.

The concept of God as a Father was not original with Jesus, but he exalted and elevated the idea into a sublime experience by achieving a new revelation of God and by proclaiming that every mortal creature is a child of this Father of love, a son of God. ~ The Urantia Book, (196:0.2)

"The affectionate heavenly Father, whose spirit indwells his children on earth, is not a divided personality—one of justice and one of mercy—neither does it require a mediator to secure the Father's favor or forgiveness. Divine righteousness is not dominated by strict retributive justice; God as a father transcends God as a judge." ~ The Urantia Book, (2:6.6)

"Man goes forth searching for a friend while that very friend lives within his own heart." ~ The Urantia Book, (3:1.4)

God Within

You may also enjoy the following selections from our Quote of the Day feature which beautifully instruct, through Urantia Book quotes and stunning photography, the truths of the indwelling God.

The creature not only exists in God, but God also lives in the creature. "We know we dwell in him because he lives in us; he has given us his spirit. This gift from the Paradise Father is man's inseparable companion." ~ The Urantia Book, (3:1.4)

The Will of God

Only in the perfection, harmony, and unanimity of will can the creature become as one with the Creator; and such a state of divinity is attained and maintained only by the creature's continuing to live in time and eternity by consistently conforming his finite personal will to the divine will of the Creator. Always must the desire to do the Father's will be supreme in the soul and dominant over the mind of an ascending son of God. ~ The Urantia Book, (130:4.3)

Man does not achieve union with God as a drop of water might find unity with the ocean. Man attains divine union by progressive reciprocal spiritual communion, by personality intercourse with the personal God, by increasingly attaining the divine nature through wholehearted and intelligent conformity to the divine will. Such a sublime relationship can exist only between personalities. ~ The Urantia Book, (1:7.2)

God-Consciousness

The realization of the recognition of spiritual values is an experience which is superideational. There is no word in any human language which can be employed to designate this "sense," "feeling," "intuition," or "experience" which we have elected to call God-consciousness. ~ The Urantia Book, (103:1.6)

Every human being very early experiences something of a conflict between his self-seeking and his altruistic impulses, and many times the first experience of God-consciousness may be attained as the result of seeking for superhuman help in the task of resolving such moral conflicts. ~ The Urantia Book, (103:2.4)

To see God—by faith—means to acquire true spiritual insight. And spiritual insight enhances Adjuster guidance, and these in the end augment God- consciousness. ~ The Urantia Book, (140:5.13)

God, Eternal Life and Immortality

The fact that mortal man goes in willing partnership with God ensures that that human being will "awaken on the shores of a better world...Then will begin your real life, the ascending life"

Said Jesus: "When you have by faith once established yourself as a son of God, nothing else matters as regards the surety of survival." ~ The Urantia Book, (176:3.3)

In so far as man's evolving morontia soul becomes permeated by truth, beauty, and goodness as the value-realization of God-consciousness, such a resultant being becomes indestructible. ~ The Urantia Book, (111:3.7)

The existence of God can never be proved by scientific experiment or by the pure reason of logical deduction. God can be realized only in the realms of human experience; nevertheless, the true concept of the reality of God is reasonable to logic, plausible to philosophy, essential to religion, and indispensable to any hope of personality survival. ~ The Urantia Book, (1 :2.4)

Man lighted by sunbeam at the bottom of a
rock crevasse by Don PaulsonGod and Religion

Religion has to do with the spiritual viewpoint, the awareness of the insideness of human experience. Man's spiritual nature affords him the opportunity of turning the universe outside in. It is therefore true that, viewed exclusively from the insideness of personality experience, all creation appears to be spiritual in nature. ~ The Urantia Book, (103 :6.3)

In reality, every human being defines religion in the terms of his own experiential interpretation of the divine impulses emanating from the God spirit that indwells him, and therefore must such an interpretation be unique and wholly different from the religious philosophy of all other human beings. ~ The Urantia Book, (103 :1.1)

The security of a religious group depends on spiritual unity, not on theological uniformity. A religious group should be able to enjoy the liberty of freethinking without having to become "freethinkers." There is great hope for any church that worships the living God, validates the brotherhood of man, and dares to remove all creedal pressure from its members. ~ The Urantia Book, (103 :5.12)

God as a Personal Experience

Man very early becomes conscious that he is not alone in the world or the universe. There develops a natural spontaneous self-consciousness of other-mindness in the environment of selfhood. Faith translates this natural experience into religion, the recognition of God as the reality—source, nature, and destiny—of other-mindness. But such a knowledge of God is ever and always a reality of personal experience. If God were not a personality, he could not become a living part of the real religious experience of a human personality. ~ The Urantia Book, (102:4.3)

Faith transforms the philosophic God of probability into the saving God of certainty in the personal religious experience. Skepticism may challenge the theories of theology, but confidence in the dependability of personal experience affirms the truth of that belief which has grown into faith. ~ The Urantia Book, (102:6.4)

Those who would invent a religion without God are like those who would gather fruit without trees, have children without parents. You cannot have effects without causes; only the I AM is causeless. The fact of religious experience implies God, and such a God of personal experience must be a personal Deity. You cannot pray to a chemical formula, supplicate a mathematical equation, worship a hypothesis, confide in a postulate, commune with a process, serve an abstraction, or hold loving fellowship with a law. ~ The Urantia Book, (102:7.3)

Ideas That Help Us to Find God

In the mortal life, paths of differential conduct are continually opening and closing, and during the times when choice is possible the human personality is constantly deciding between these many courses of action. Temporal volition is linked to time, and it must await the passing of time to find opportunity for expression. Spiritual volition has begun to taste liberation from the fetters of time, having achieved partial escape from time sequence, and that is because spiritual volition is self-identifying with the will of God. ~ The Urantia Book, (118:6.6)

Jesus Revealed God

Jesus' mission was to tell a new truth about God. When Jesus was on earth, his mission was to reveal anew to mankind the loving nature of God. And that revelation that Jesus lived constituted the fourth revelation of epochal significance to our planet. Jesus WAS God made visible to mortal eyes, while at the same time living the life of a mortal creature like you or me, which is why his incarnation on earth has so much meaning and value even after 2000 years. Jesus often said that "He who has seen me has seen the Father."

These selections from The Urantia Book will help you understand more about the revelation of God that was Jesus of Nazareth.

The Kingdom of God

Along with the revelation of God to mankind, Jesus introduced the Kingdom idea - he disappointed some by his refusal to assume a worldly throme, but he established a spiritual kingdom of eternal value - one that is growing still, and one that is open to all. Jesus said: "where the spirit of God teaches and leads the soul of man, there in reality is the kingdom of heaven. And this kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit."
