Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey is a very popular TV series which consists of "scientific storytelling to reveal the grandeur of the universe." And no wonder that it's so popular; it is becoming increasingly common to read stories about the universe, about the possibility of other intelligent life "out there," and to entertain thoughts about interplanetary travel. This is the fascinating subject of Cosmology.
What is cosmology?
- the branch of philosophy dealing with the origin and general structure of the universe, with its parts, elements, and laws, and especially with such of its characteristics as space, time, causality, and freedom.
- the branch of astronomy that deals with the general structure and evolution of the universe.
The Urantia Book has been THE pioneer in explaining and detailing our universe and its cosmology for nearly 100 years. Part 1 and Part II of the book are exclusively devoted to the origins of all we see in the skies, its detailed structure, and the personaliies who inhabit this grand creation that we call "the universe." The scales are vast, the distances are mind-boggling, and yet, the comprehensibility of the universe is accessible to anyone who has the desire to learn.
The biggest difference between the popular exploration of space in current media, and the revelation of universe cosmology in The Urantia Book is that, while the popular TV series is reluctant to posit a First Cause as the origins of all that we see in the heavens, The Urantia Book marries the mysteries of space to the reality of God, and his amazing plan for furthering the spiritual progress of mortals like us through it.
1:0.2 The myriads of planetary systems were all made to be eventually inhabited by many different types of intelligent creatures, beings who could know God, receive the divine affection, and love him in return. The universe of universes is the work of God and the dwelling place of his diverse creatures. “God created the heavens and formed the earth; he established the universe and created this world not in vain; he formed it to be inhabited.

HERE is our topical study on the Universe. It is filled with inspiring teachings found only in The Urantia Book - teachings that are destined to inform humanity for the next thousand years. Here, you'll find some of the most sweeping information about our universe - its creation, organization, and purpose. Among other things, we learn:
God is the one and only self-caused fact in the universe. He is the secret of the order, plan, and purpose of the whole creation of things and beings. The everywhere-changing universe is regulated and stabilized by absolutely unchanging laws, the habits of an unchanging God. The fact of God, the divine law, is changeless; the truth of God, his relation to the universe, is a relative revelation which is ever adaptable to the constantly evolving universe. ~ The Urantia Book, (102:7.2)

Hubble Telescope Discoveries Validate Urantia Book Cosmology!!! This video corroborates much of the teachings about cosmology that we learn from Urantia Book teachings. Increasingly, modern science is validating this revelation that has been informing humanity for over 50 years - long before Hubble even left the ground.
Jesus, as the actual Creator of our universe, knew more than anyone about time and space. Read his discourse on this fascinating subject HERE
And, lest anyone think that the universe is somehow a mechanistic, automatic, or random phenomenon, we offer these final thoughts about the cosmology of the universe:
If this were only a material universe, material man would never be able to arrive at the concept of the mechanistic character of such an exclusively material existence. This very mechanistic concept of the universe is in itself a nonmaterial phenomenon of mind, and all mind is of nonmaterial origin, no matter how thoroughly it may appear to be materially conditioned and mechanistically controlled. ~ The Urantia Book, (195:7.6)
If we were to define the predominant philosophy influencing the world today it would be "mechanistic" as opposed to created by a divine plan. Science is mechanistic -- it's not in touch with any spiritual foundation or Creative Being responsible for creation. The Big Bang is mechanistic. Atheism and free thinking are on the rise and use science as their god. In their view, the universe is just one big machine.
Materialism connects the philosophy of mechanism to a religious viewpoint, again in which things have no spiritual foundation. "God is dead." "Humans reign supreme. We're free to do whatever we choose to do simply because we can do it."
For the past 100 years and on into the future we have been participating and will continue to participate in this philosophical/religious negative vacuum and we will continue to experience it until the time comes when Jesus' life and teachings forever obliterate its influence. When we practice the religion that Jesus taught - the religion of personal spiritual experience - our spirits are gradually becoming liberated, and the advances of science are able to be seen as gradually uncovering true reality.
