BETHSAIDA, AD 29
Jesus denounced practices he termed superstition, fear and magic. A brief summary follows of those practices Jesus proclaimed to be superstitious:
ASTROLOGY: Jesus said the stars and planets have no effect upon human life. He said that astronomy was a legitimate science, but that astrology is a “mass of superstition and error.”
ENTRAILS and CASTING LOTS: Examination of the organs of a recently killed animal and casting lots have no validity in predicting the future.
SPIRITS of the DEAD: These do not come back to communicate with the living.
CHARMS, DIVINATION, SORCERY, and WITCHCRAFT: Belief in these concepts is superstitious and invalid.
SPELLS, ENCHANTERS, WIZARDS and the like are false and enslaving superstitions. Jesus said that his “gospel of the kingdom” has nothing in common with the soothsayer priests of primitive religions
